The patient is a 36 year old man with a 4 year history of weakness which began on his right side. Over the four years he developed numbness, tingling, and weakness in his hands, problems walking, cognitive deterioration, tingling in his feet, urinary urgency, and erectile dysfunction. As a chiropractor he was no longer able to use his hands for his profession and closed his practice, becoming 100% disabled. He tried many treatments without success and his initial diagnosis of Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis was changed to Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Physical exam revealed multiple deficits in motor strength, coordination, balance, gait, speech, and cognition. MRI of the brain demonstrated diffuse white matter lesions typical of MS. MRI of the cervical spine was negative.
Patient underwent SPECT brain imaging before and after the first HBOT for multiple sclerosis and then after the 80th HBOT. Throughout the course of two blocks of 40 HBOTs the patient experienced significant improvement in his speech, cognitive abilities, gait, strength, coordination, balance, numbness and tingling, and urinary urgency.
